Welcome to the Heavy Metal Wanaka show episode 8, this week featuring my interview with Juan Brujo of Brujeria. During the voice breaks, I introduce a new segment to the show, a rather cliched (and creatively titled): The Heavy Metal Wanaka News Segment, featuring news regarding Slayer, The Dillinger Escape Plan, Devin Townsend, Mr Marcaille and maybe more... The new Iphone is set to remove the audio jack, but this is not what I'm talking about- headphones. I just got off the phone with Drowning Pool guitarist C.J. Pierce. The band will be playing shows in New Zealand and Australia throughout the end of July. For more info and tickets check out:  http://www.metropolistouring.com/drowningpool The band is touring in support of their recent new album 'Hellelujah', and also recently made headlines after John Hetlinger, a contestant on an American talent show gave a performance of the bands hit song, 'Bodies'- Mr Hetlinger was then invited to join the band on stage during a live performance at a festival show. This interview will be featured in an upcoming episode of Heavy Metal Wanaka. I just got off the phone with Alex Erian, lyricist and one of two vocalists for the recently reunited Canadian band Despised Icon . Absolute monster / legend of the genre. The band have a new album, "Beast", their first for Nuclear Blast records, out July 22nd, and fans can get a taste of it with two music videos already out for the singles, "The Aftermath" [ youtube ] and "Beast" [ youtube ]. Alex mentioned he'd love for the band to tour down our way, or rather Aussie, but given the bands new look on life as a touring act, I'm paraphrasing & over simplifying but they're taking things a bit easier for Despised Icon- maybe they could be convinced to spend a wee bit of time in picturesque Wanaka... If, by the time you're reading this, we're a couple of shows into Heavy Metal Wanaka & you're left wondering about a few things- our initial run of 10 shows was under a different name. From late June 2016 we changed to the more straight forward moniker we know and love today.
