Heavy Metal Wanaka

[audio /heavymetalwanaka/HMW_podcast_4.mp3 ] Welcome to the fourth episode of the Heavy Metal Wanaka Podcast. This time I feature my interview with Lynd, the guitarist for Swedish Power/Adventure metal band Twilight Force who have a new album, "Heroes of Mighty Magic" out now. We discuss the new album and go into the 'adventure' / 'fantasy' side of the band- the additional element they add to their music and performance. NOTE: Released just prior to the publishing of this article: The Lore of Lynd. This podcast was recorded in Wanaka, New Zealand. This was the scene one evening as I was heading back to my car after work.[/caption]

Started the day off with an interview with Mexican-American Brutal Metallers Brujeria , and finished up with and interview with Swedish Adventure Metallers Twilight Force . These interviews will be featured on next podcasts & upcoming music shows, so stay tuned for more info. I spoke with Juan Brujo, front man for Legendary Mexican-American Metallers Brujeria are set to release their fourth full length album "Poncho Aztlan" on Mexican Indepence Day, September 16th. Their songs are brutal, and the ideas they covered are ripped from the realities of the drug war, racial and border issues, with a spin of dark humour. Second interview of the day was with Lindt, guitarist of Swedish Adventure / Power Metallers Twilight Force. The new album, Heroes of Mighty Magic is more or less out now, (26th August 2016). The album features a narrative running through the album based official lore of the band and the members as characters.

Welcome to The Heavy Metal Wanaka Music show Episode 4. This was recorded (& mostly sorted) almost a week and a half prior to posting here, but I've been a wee bit busy behind the scenes with the new podcast and other things. /heavymetalwanaka/HMW_podcast_3.mp3 Welcome to the third episode of the Heavy Metal Wanaka Podcast, first up this week I feature my interview with C.J. Pierce of Drowning Pool, where we talk about the bands (then) upcoming tour of New Zealand & Australia in support of the bands sixth album 'Hellelujah' out now- we also touch on Americas Got Talent contestants as well as Marvel comics property & subject of recent monster smash movie, Deadpool. After the interview, I touch on some behind the scenes happenings & thoughts in regards to The Heavy Metal Podcast #2, particularly about posting an older interview on a new podcast, only to have the major news of that band being announced as touring the country, in mere seconds to minutes before publishing the podcast. [audio src="http://traffic.libsyn.com/heavymetalwanaka/HMW_podcast_2.mp3"] Welcome to the second episode of the Heavy Metal Wanaka Podcast, first up this week I feature my interview with Alex Hofmann of Fallujah, where we talk about the bands latest album 'Dreamless' out now on Nuclear Blast Records. PLEASE NOTE: During the final stages of getting this podcast ready for publishing, a NZ & Australian tour with Fallujah acting as support to Killswitch Engage, was announced. http://selecttouring.com.au/tours/killswitch-engage/ After the interview, I touch on the issue of the misinterpretation and misunderstanding of academic studies into metal, though the use of click bait style headlines. This was an off the cuff reiteration of something I had covered in a former podcast (now unavailable) For more info on the podcast visit us at: http://heavymetalwanaka.wordpress.com or search 'Heavy Metal Wanaka' on facebook and twitter.

I just got off the phone with Drowning Pool guitarist C.J. Pierce. The band will be playing shows in New Zealand and Australia throughout the end of July. For more info and tickets check out:  http://www.metropolistouring.com/drowningpool The band is touring in support of their recent new album 'Hellelujah', and also recently made headlines after John Hetlinger, a contestant on an American talent show gave a performance of the bands hit song, 'Bodies'- Mr Hetlinger was then invited to join the band on stage during a live performance at a festival show. This interview will be featured in an upcoming episode of Heavy Metal Wanaka. (probably the next one as the tour is coming up rather shortly.)   [caption id="attachment_520" align="alignnone" width="1024"] This podcast is recorded in Wanaka, New Zealand. [audio src="http://traffic.libsyn.com/heavymetalwanaka/HMW_podcast_1.mp3"] Welcome to the first episode of the Heavy Metal Wanaka Podcast, first up this week I feature my interview with Alex Erian of Despised Icon, where we talk about the bands upcoming new album 'Beast' out 22nd July 2016 via Nuclear Blast Records. After the interview, I give my impressions of two Heavy Metal related/themed mobile games; 'Heavy Metal Tennis' and Iron Maiden's 'Legacy of the Beast'. Both free for download and available on ios and android. For more info on the podcast visit us at: http://heavymetalwanaka.wordpress.com or search 'Heavy Metal Wanaka' on facebook and twitter. [mixcloud https://www.mixcloud.com/Heavy_Metal_Space_Farts/heavy-metal-wanaka-ep-2/ width=100% height=120 hide_cover=1 light=1] HEAVY METAL WANAKA EPISODE 2 Number two done and dusted. I had my interview with Alex Erian from Despised Icon this week- which interrupted my usual flow of show prep so (to me) this weeks episode feels a bit rushed. Despite this, however, I did include a couple of New Zealand bands in the roster; Bulletbelt- who have an upcoming 7" split with Bastardizer. Ulcerate- who have released info on their upcoming album & North American tour, due to be released via Relapse Records. Depths- who are playing a few shows in the South Island, at it's closest, a mere several hours drive away. Depraved- who were suggested to me to listen to & their song I featured From my voice break rant about the video from 2013 that suddenly made the rounds on some of the big metal blogs this last week: Mr. Know-It-All: The Effect of Music on a Child's Brain ...

I just got off the phone with Alex Erian, lyricist and one of two vocalists for the recently reunited Canadian band Despised Icon . Absolute monster / legend of the genre. The band have a new album, "Beast", their first for Nuclear Blast records, out July 22nd, and fans can get a taste of it with two music videos already out for the singles, "The Aftermath" [ youtube ] and "Beast" [ youtube ]. Alex mentioned he'd love for the band to tour down our way, or rather Aussie, but given the bands new look on life as a touring act, I'm paraphrasing & over simplifying but they're taking things a bit easier for Despised Icon- maybe they could be convinced to spend a wee bit of time in picturesque Wanaka... This interview will be featured on an upcoming episode Heavy Metal Wanaka. [caption id="attachment_371" align="alignnone" width="645"] I put up a photo with the other posts I do on this blog, may as well continue here...

Welcome to "Heavy Metal Wanaka", a metal podcast based in Wanaka, NZ. If, by the time you're reading this, we're a couple of shows into Heavy Metal Wanaka & you're left wondering about a few things- our initial run of 10 shows was under a different name. From late June 2016 we changed to the more straight forward moniker we know and love today.

Please note; considerations (i.e. dialogue, song choice etc) for this episode came prior to the news or certainly the gravity of the tragic events of the weekend filtering through. We would like to add our voice the many in condolence to the victims friends and families, and as  global citizens say that change is needed.  [mixcloud https://www.mixcloud.com/Heavy_Metal_Space_Farts/heavy-metal-space-farce-nine/ width=100% height=120 hide_cover=1 light=1] HEAVY METAL SPACE FARCE EP. 9.
